2NE1 Fans Launch Social Media Campaign Encouraging The Group To Attend MAMA 2014

On November 1, 2NE1 fans (Blackjacks) launched a social media campaign through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter using the hashtag ‪‎WeWant2NE1onMAMA2014‬. The campaign includes the slogan “No 2NE1, No MAMA.” The campaign and hashtag are meant to address a statement issued by YG Entertainment which proclaimed that 2NE1 would not be attending or performing at end of the year activities.

YG Entertainment issued the statement on October 24. Korean media outlet TenAsia provided the following quote from the representative, “Though they've received a number of offers, 2NE1 has decided not to attend any music award ceremonies at the end of this year.”

MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) is one of the most significant year end events for K-Pop artists, with 2NE1 currently leading the Best Female Group category.

2NE1 are currently maintaining a lead over Girls’ Generation in the MAMA 2014 category for Best Female Group. As of November 4, 2NE1 leads with 30.4% of the popular vote versus 23.8% for Girls’ Generation.

Twittter user @lemontaehyun expressed the sentiments of many fans by stating “MAMA without 2NE1 is like celebrating a birthday party without the celebrant.”

While the hashtag has yet to trend, it continues to gain momentum as more fans of 2NE1 and YG Entertainment share it. The campaign is scheduled to continue until November 7, with fans also taking to Mnet’s social media to draw attention.
