JYP CEO Park Jin Young Discusses Scandals, No Mention Of Jay Park

During an interview with the press, JYP's CEO, Park Jin Young, explained that JYP Entertainment's idols don't get into scandals because he picks them well.

The CEO and singer was asked why he thought that JYP artists don't appear negatively in the news, and he explained that it was because of their good and kind personalities. Park Jin Young, known by the initials JYP, emphasized that 2PM member Nichkhun's drunk driving accident was the biggest scandal from the company. However, he did not mention the 2009 scandal involving former 2PM member Jay Park.

On November 4, JYP sat down for an interview with reporters in Gangnam, Seoul. During the event he discussed numerous topics, including JYP's lack of scandals, in comparison to the large scandals that have shaken both SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment in 2014.

"Essentially, I don't pick kids that are talented, but I choose kids that are good and proper," he explained. "In twenty, our company only had one issue with the law. That was Nichkhun's DUI incident. Other than that, we haven't had a huge issue."

Even though Park Jin Young was discussing law-breaking incidents, the original question was about remaining scandal-free. JYP did not mention JYP Entertainment's largest scandal in recent years, that of Jay Park's (then known as Park Jaebeom,) departure from 2PM, due to a social media scandal.

JYP also discussed that honesty and hardwork is more important than bringing in money, and emphasized that if JYP employees do something wrong, they are asked to leave. "I've never told them, 'go and make our money company.' I've told them, 'Let's grow our company honestly.'"

"Even when the prosecutors or the National Tax Service come, there is no problem. There's nothing tohide , and they'll even say, 'They're stupid, so just leave them alone,' because we're so honest," added Park Jin Young. "I also went under a tax investigation, and I was told, 'We didn't know you were this kind of person.' And it was expected because I've continuously paid my taxes despite not having a lot of money."

The CEO also explained that he doesn't see JYP Entertainment as one of Korea's so-called 'Big 3' entertainment companies, and that he doesn't feel pressure or anxiety over making JYP Entertainment a large company.

During the press conference, Park Jin Young also made mention of JYP Entertainment's future plans, and which employees bring in the most money.
