It’s Official The Beloved British Period Drama ‘Downton Abbey’ Is Coming Back For Season 6, Season 5 Premieres Jan. 2016

It's official, 'Downton Abbey, ' the melodramatic and yet popular period drama television series is coming back for the sixth season, New York Daily News reported.

PBS has announced that Season 6 production soon after its fifth season airing kicks off in January 2016 in the United States, it is not known though who will be the cast of the sixth season.

The reports said that in order to cast the members for Season 6, talks and contract negotiations had to be made anew.

'Downton Abbey,' portrays the saga of the Crawley family and their servants.

It has been one of the most watched television drama shows in the world, it is also have received several accolades that include a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie.

It has also been cited by the Guinness World Records as "the most critically acclaimed English-language television series of 2011."

Season 4 had audience of 13.2 million viewers, which made it PBS's top drama of all time. The first episode of Season 5 will be first shown in Britain and then in the U.S.

Julian Fellowes will still be writing the episodes despite earlier news that he could be dropping out of the project because of a potential writing gig for an American show.

In an earlier interview with the Wall Street Journal, Fellowes said , I don't know yet if there is a season six, but it's not going to go on forever."

However, the show it so popular that Season 6 is in order and why it is so popular, Fellowes said in an interview with New York Times that the show depicts actual emotional situations that audiences can relate to it.

"Although in one sense Downton is very British, It's very fixed in a particular part and way of life, a particular limited range of society and so on . I think most of the stories are about emotional situations that everyone can understand," Fellowes said.
