Hallyu star Gongyoo's appearance in Harajuku is greeted by much fanfare

Currently on a 3-city massive-scale fan meeting tour in Japan, Gongyoo took over the Harajuku region last night. The Hallyu star and actor was in the Harajuku region for an interview with the SBS show "Nightly Entertainment News" when the streets were quickly flooded by excited fans. At around 7 PM, such a large mob of fans had gathered that there was no room for Gongyoo to walk down the street for the filming of the interview.

Harajuku is known for its young crowd. As Gongyoo stepped into the streets of the young city, loud cheers and camera flashes from his young fans greeted him. Between the teenage girls' screams of "Coffee Prince Chae Hankyul" and bright flashes, Gongyoo's popularity was clearly evident. Also, the event showed that Hallyu's audience in Japan is no longer predominantly middle-aged women, but spans a much wider age range.

Gongyoo later made this statement, "The experience of walking down the street [of Harajuku] was unreal. It's unbelievable how many people knew my name. On one hand, it's amazing, and on the other, it makes me realize how much harder I should work." Afterwards, the Hallyu star boarded a 2-story tour bus, where he looked back with SBS on the past decade of his acting career, and shared his thoughts on what acting means to him.

This and more from Gongyoo's tour in Japan will air on the "Power People 2011" segment of SBS "Nightly Entertainment News" on December 14.
