MTV Recalls 'TRL' Music Video Era With AOA's 'Like A Cat'

FNC Entertainment girl group AOA recently made their comeback with the track "Like a Cat," and the new song has more than just their fans in Korea up and dancing.

MTV featured the K-Pop group in an article titled AOA Have Your TRL-Era Video Fix With 'Like A Cat,' and soon after the video jumped to more than 2 million views on YouTube.

Writer John Walker compared the new music video (released on November 10) to those that appeared on MTV's popular video countdown show from the late 90's, Total Request Live.

"[Like a Cat] boasts everything those high concept music videos from the TRL era always brought: elaborate costumes, choreography, intrigue, suspense, lasers."

Walker mentions casual fans of K-Pop would appreciate what AOA does with their concepts and performances, calling them a K-Pop act "to put on your radar." He also points out that the band is not afraid to embrace their sexuality, yet still seem to keep things moderate to draw in more conservative fans. "You could say they're changing the game sneakily... like a cat."

AOA shared the MTV article with their fans on Facebook in a message written in both Korean and English. "The reason why K-Pop fans SHOULD pay attention to AOA?" the post asked. "Here we have an article from MTV." The message then linked to the article on MTV's website.

Fans expressed their excitement for the AOA members and their rising popularity.

"AOA has been one of my favorite groups since I heard about them," wrote Jason Barnes on the group's Facebook post. "They've only gotten better since!"

"Great MV and concept!" wrote Dengke Sha while another fan, Lee Hye Jin added, "WOW good! I love AOA."

Michelle Smith added her thoughts on how the group could expand their foreign fan base further. "Now if you can only put [English subtitles] in your videos so you can help the [English-speaking] fans better!" she wrote.
