With two weeks remaining until the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), the categories of Best New Artist and UnionPay Artist of the Year are still too close to call. WINNER maintains a small fraction of a lead over GOT7 in the Best New Artist category, while EXO has a miniscule lead head of WINNER for Artist of the Year.

In the Best New Artist category, WINNER continues to lead with only .4% of votes over GOT7. WINNER has received a total of 35.7 votes versus GOT7, who has 35.3% of votes.

GOT7 debuted in January 2014. The group has built a large social media following since their debut, including close to 1.8 million followers on Facebook. WINNER has received accolades for their debut concept album “2014 S/S” and were the recipients of the Best New Artist award at the 2014 MelOn Music Awards.

EXO has struggled with the loss of two members in 2014 but their fans (EXO-L) continue to rally around the group.

EXO kicked off the voting session of MAMA 2014 with solid leads in all categories in where the group was nominated. However, they surrendered their lead in the Best Male Group category to fellow SM Entertainment artists Super Junior. Super Junior now leads the category with 32.6% of popular votes versus EXO who maintains 30.7% of the vote.

EXO also relinquished their lead in the Best Dance Performance Male Group category, with TVXQ edging them out. TVXQ now leads the category with 32.2% or more than 8.4 million votes for their song “Something.” EXO has 30.9% of votes in the Best Dance Performance Male Group category for “Overdose.”

As of November 19, more than 28.4 million votes have been cast from Korean pop fans throughout the world. MAMA 2014 has witnessed record-breaking participation from international fans with China leading the votes at 38.8% followed by Southeast Asia with 31.6% of votes.
