K-Pop Beyond The Charts: Shin Jisu And Kim Feel's 'New Day' Is A Jam The Whole Family Can Enjoy [AUDIO]

K-Pop Beyond The Charts is an occasional review column highlighting Korea's modern day musical innovators who have yet to find mainstream success.

If you are currently living in the US, you are most likely spending Thursday with friends and family for the national food stuffing festivity known as Thanksgiving.

The soundtrack on this day can often be tricky.

Will it be your niece's Taylor Swift album, your uncle's Black Sabbath collection or your grandmother's Windham Hill sampler?

Though it was almost assuredly not their intention, on their newest single "New Day," South Korean vocalists Shin Jisu and Kim Feel have created a mellow, feel-good R&B track the whole family can get behind, that is, if you can talk them into trying a little K-pop with their turkey.

Whether it is being performed inside or outside Korea, modern R&B is a genre infamous for too much production, too much gloss and singing that is too dense or show-offish.

On "New Day," released on Tuesday, none of this is the case.

The song is tastefully constructed, with a pleasant mixture of live performances and well-crafted electronic sequences. But it is Shin and Kim's earnestly impassioned singing that really hammers the song home.

Just because a song doesn't make you feel good, doesn't mean it's a bad song (see nearly every Radiohead or Nick Drake song for proof of this fact). But with "New Day," Shin and Kim create a mood that should slow your heartbeat down a few notches.

And whether it's your blue-collar brother in law or your nephew's strange new girlfriend, who couldn't use a moment to catch their breath during the dizzying pace of the holiday season?

Why not make it a Hallyu holiday?
