Phillip Hughes Death: Cricket Australia Amends Hughes' Scorecard; Chief Executive James Sutherland Declares 'Phillip Will Forever Remain 63 Not Out' [PHOTO]

Since Australian batsman Phillip Hughes' tragic accidental death, Cricket Australia has amended his scorecard so that he will remain forever 63 not out. According to the Independent, Hughes died this past Thursday after being struck in the neck by a ball just two days previously, and was listed 'retired hurt' at the time.

However, Cricket Australia has made it their duty to amend Hughes' scorecard. After Hughes was struck, his match abandoned. Given that he was not replaced, his scorecard has now been altered. Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland stated, "It might seem like a little thing, but it's an important distinction... Phillip will forever remain 63 not out."

Sutherland's gesture came in the wake of Australia captain Michael Clarke paying tribute to Hughes on what would have been his 26th birthday. According to Sky Sports, Clarke made an emotional address to the Sydney media, stating, "As I stood in the centre of the SCG on Thursday night, at the spot where my 'little brother' played his last shot, I struggled to comprehend how this tragedy could happen to one of life's true characters and gentlemen.

His cricketing achievements - of which there were many - really play second fiddle to the human qualities that he exhibited. Loyal to a fault, eternally optimistic, kind hearted, wicked sense of humor, a child-like verve for life ... I really could go on and on. I don't have a blood brother, but I am very proud to have called Phillip my brother. I am a better man for having known him."

Clarke later posted on Twitter, "Happy bday bro. Will love you forever. It has been the hardest few days of my life. You will stand with me every time I walk out onto that ground."

Hughes' number 64 shirt has since been retired following his death. His funeral will take place on Wednesday in his family's home town of Macksville in northern New South Wales.
