Mnet Asian Music Awards Red Carpet Style Trends

The red carpet for the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards took place on December 3 and the event was filled with fashion surprises. Idols ignored international runway style trends and followed more traditional, glamorous style choices. The night was filled with screaming fans, flashing paparazzi cameras and jaw-dropping fashion. Here are five fashion revelations from the live show filled with plunging dresses, minimalistic silver accessories, and dashing tuxedos!

Red Took Over The Evening

The color red was immensely popular during the event. The festive hue was considered appropriate considering the proximity of the award show to the holiday season. Red was everywhere in MAMA, from small accessories to floor-length gowns! The Bangtan Boys performed "Boy In Luv" for adoring, screaming fans while clad in red wardrobe pieces. The boys had an obvious maroon theme, wearing red blazers, hot leather pants, and bandanas to accentuate their black leather apparel. Rap Monster even dyed his hair red to match his outfit!

Various actresses also wore red for the glamorous affair. Han Guru wore a beautiful off-shoulder dress with a folded motif at the top hem and Park Bo Young had a lovely orange-red mini dress with a flower-stitching design over her slender shoulders.

But perhaps the best use of red was G-Dragon, who wore a glittering candy-stripped jacket and wide hat with an adorable feather detail. The blazer carried his entire look and couldn't even be upstaged by a leopard scarf.

Black Suits & Dresses Remained The Classic Default Choice

If you want to look classy, black always translates as undeniable elegance. The color can make you look refined, sexy and glamorous effortlessly. It's all about the accessories and cut of the outfit.

AOA wore black leather crop tops and skirts with strategic slits and cut-outs. The shiny leather made the pieces very reminiscence of their wardrobe from the "Like A Cat" music video. The girls then took the stage to perform the very same hit.

The Winner members wore gray and black Saint Laurent winter-wear pieces with golden accents. Tae Hyun wore a particularly captivating chain-lapel wool blazer worth $2,344 USD. Seung Yoon wore a classic wide stripe coat worth $2,449 USD. The Infinite members, on the other hand, donned classic black suits with matching ties and tiny bows. EXO also went for a classic, clean-cut look with black-and-white tuxedos. Only, select members wore over-sized coats instead of strapping blazers, which gave the group a lookbook ready visage.

Actress Yoon Eun Hye was gorgeous in a black short dress with a silver belt, one long sleeve and side-tail. The top bodice had an apron-cut and the train had sparkling polka-dots that glowed under the lights.

White Was The Color Of Pure Beauty

Many actresses and idols also wore white for the red carpet. The color was a fresh, subtle approach to elegance that gave the wearers a very clean appearance.

IU wore a beautiful, white couture gown with scrunched lace at her hips. The dress had sheer long sleeves and scattered crystals adorning the bodice. IU looked like a beautiful young goddess; she was absolutely ethereal. The dress had a long train that swept the carpet behind her and gave her a regal aura.

Girl's Day also wore white, with each member trying different styles for the color. Hyeri wore a mini dress with scattered gray blotches. Minah also wore a mini red dress, but she made a strong leather jacket her statement piece. Sojin and Yura wore long jersey dresses with thin sashes.

Actor Kwon Sang Woo stood out from all the other men during the red carpet because of his white tuxedo jacket. The piece contrasted with his black pants and made him look like a high-class gentleman.

There Were Wildcards

Tiffany surprised in a brocade Valentino mini dress from Fall 2014 runway show. The short dress looked like a panting canvas with its beautiful flower prints and relief collar. The piece is extremely popular and has also been worth by 2NE1's CL and Dara.

Song Ji Hyo had one of the most unique dresses of the evening. She wore a plunging pink gown with a clear top layer of white flowers. The strapless gown was undeniably unforgettable and a huge fashion risk that paid off.

The Best Asian Style Award Winner

At the end of the red carpet, the Best Asian Style Award was given to EXO. In an evening filled with fashion surprises and vintage choices, it was very appropriate for twelve men in tuxedos to take home the coveted style prize.
