EXO Nabs 4 MAMA Awards Including Unionpay Asian Artist Of The Year As Fans Look Past Member Departures

EXO entered the final hour of the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) with three major awards. They would later go on to receive the UnionPay Album of the Year award for their release "Overdose."

2014 was a difficult year for EXO, due to the departure of EXO-M members Luhan and Kris, after they both reportedly filed contract termination lawsuits with the band's label, SM Entertainment.

However, the group established their continued relevance as one of the most influential groups in K-pop at the MAMAs.

With their four wins, it is clear that fans (referred to by the group as EXO-L) had shown the group lots of love. Through their awards, EXO demonstrated not only a strong fan base but also an impact on other artists within the Korean entertainment industry.

Representing Korea, EXO were the winners of the pan-Asian award. The group received the Asian Artist of the Year award after previously receiving the Asian Style and Best Male Group awards.

Other recipients of the Asian Artist awards were comprised of solo artists and groups from throughout Asia. Vietnamese artist Ho Quyun Huong received an award, along with Leiri Leo of Japan. Thaitanium, who was interviewed by Kpopstarz during their U.S. tour, were the recipients of the award for Thailand.

JJ Lin, who maintains a strong fan base in Korea and throughout Asia, won the award for Singapore.

As they received the Album of the Year Award for "Overdose," the members led the crowd to in a chant of their motto, "we are one."
