Kelly Rowland’s Mom Doris Rowland Garrison Passes Away At Age 66

Kelly Rowland's mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, has passed away.

The singer's 66-year-old mom was in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday when she experienced a cardiac arrest. Garrison reportedly died on Tuesday.

According to E! News, Rowland's publicist issued a statement on behalf of the former Destiny's Child singer.

"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison. She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman-and now mother-I am today," said Rowland, 33, on Wednesday. "We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time."

Garrison's tragic passing comes just weeks after Rowland gave birth to her first child, a son named Titan Jewell Weatherspoon. Rowland and her husband Tim Weatherspoon welcomed the baby boy on Nov. 4.

One of Rowland's best friends, Destiny's Child bandmate Beyoncé, posted a photo on Instagram that appears to be a reflection on the news of Garrison's death. The black and white snapshot shows a set of clouds in the sky parting as sunlight streams through.

In 2006, Rowland wrote a special Mother's Day Tribute to her mom and her other mother figure, Beyoncé's mom Tina Knowles, in Essence magazine.

"I remember when you'd clap your hands and listen as I sang along every week to the theme song for the show Amen. You'd look at me like I was the sun and the moon and say, 'Sing up, baby...a little louder.' It meant so much that you believed in me," Rowland wrote to her mom Doris. "When we had rough times in Houston, you did your best to balance our family with your job as a live-in nanny. And I know it was difficult for you to run me back and forth for rehearsals after I joined Destiny's Child. I spent a lot of nights at the Knowleses' house. Soon a month turned into a year, then years. You came by every day, though, and cooked dinner, and we'd all eat as a family. It was because of your strength and sacrifice that I was able to dream so big."
