Rachael Ray Weighs In On Martha Stewart’s Feud With Gwyneth Paltrow On 'Watch What Happens Live'

The alleged feud between Martha Stewart and Gwyneth Paltrow has been a hot topic in the food industry, particularly over the last year.

So when celebrity chef Rachael Ray was asked for her take on the Martha vs. Gwyneth debate during an interview on Wednesday on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live," all ears were certainly perked for her response.

"I'm on team food. I think everybody who likes to eat has a different take on it and everybody's opinion should be respected," said Ray, in an admirably diplomatic response.

"I love Gwyneth Paltrow. I think that she is very devoted to everything she puts her mind to, and I think she is really a brilliant cookbook author. She writes in many different disciplines."

Stewart incited the public feud with Paltrow when she made a less than welcoming comment about the Oscar winner's entry into the lifestyle brand world.

"She just needs to be quiet-she's a movie star," Stewart told PORTER magazine in 2014, regarding Paltrow. "If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn't be trying to be Martha Stewart."

However, Rachael Ray only had courteous things to say about Stewart while on "Watch What Happens Next."

"I have to have nothing but respect for Martha Stewart. She is a forerunner," said Ray. "I wouldn't have a job without the people who came before me. [Emeril Lagasse] started Food Network. Martha Stewart created an avenue for women who work in lifestyle television-period. You have to have respect for all people's opinions...in my opinion."

The presumed bad blood between Stewart and Paltrow appeared to go up a notch last month when Martha included a series of desserts in her magazine, Martha Stewart Living, which mocked the "Shakespeare In Love" actress's separation from her husband Chris Martin.

The November issue of Stewart's mag featured a collection of Thanksgiving pies, called "Conscious Coupling," which were described as a "perfect marriage of crust and filling." The title, of course, was a dig at Paltrow's use of the term "conscious uncoupling" to announce her and Martin's split.

Paltrow struck back, however, with a "Jailbird Cake" recipe that was published on her lifestyle website Goop, a clear stab at Stewart's 2004 prison term for charges related to insider trading.

"The folks at Goop know how to have some fun, too," a source close to Paltrow told PEOPLE magazine. "If Martha served up the appetizer, the Jailbird Cake is just desserts."
