French Toast Crunch Cereal Returns Due To Customer Demand: General Mills Brings Back Popular Flavor After 8 Year Hiatus; Cereal Lovers Rejoice [PHOTO]

After an 8-year hiatus, French Toast Crunch Cereal is back. According to TIME, General Mills sold the cereal between the years of 1995 and 2006, and has revealed that it is now back on select shelves and will be available widely starting this upcoming January.

CNN reports that the "little toast-shaped, maple-flavored bites of deliciousness" (as General Mills describes them) were survived by their sister cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch. However, popular demand has now encouraged General Mills to relaunch French Toast Crunch and delight customers everywhere.

According to ABC News, fans of the cereal gathered thousands of signatures for an online petition, created a Facebook page, and contacted the company with calls and emails to bring back the cereal.

General Mills marketing manager Waylon Good said in a statement, "We have been overwhelmed by the consumer conversations, requests and passion for the cereal to come back...We value our fans and are so excited to be able to bring it back for them."

What some people may not know is that while French Toast Crunch has been out of commission in the United States, it has been available in Canada for quite some time. French-speaking parts of Canada called the cereal "Croque Pain Doré." Devotees ordered still the cereal online, but General Mills said "the shipping fees were often steep" and only "a lucky few" could score a supply. According to Grubstreet, "Croque Pain Doré" has been known to go for $24.95 a box, plus shipping and a large number of customs forms.

Maybe food revival is a happening thing these days. TIME reports that Coca-Cola's decision to bring back Surge, Mars' reintroduction of Crispy M&M's, and Burger King's resurgence of the Yumbo hoagie after a 40-year hiatus may herald a new era of food back from the graveyard.
