20th Anniversary PS4 Selling Out As Soon They Go On Sale; Will Sony Manufacture More Outside Of The 12,300-Unit Run?

After Sony first unveiled their 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 console, we couldn't wait to get one as the color scheme brought back fond memories. Apparently we were not alone.

Retailers around the country state that the original grey colored PS4s are selling out as soon as they go on sale. Within minutes of going live, the limited edition PS4 seem to have sold out on the site. This shows that gamers still have a soft-spot for the PS1. This is also owing to the limited supply inherent to the 20th Anniversary PS4s as only 12,300 were made.

Although these PS4s are selling out like hot cakes around the globe, there may still be hope to get one. Sony UK, still has around 800 units to sell in coming days online. However, we don't know when but this limited edition will sell for the regular £399 price. Some British gamers were lucky enough to get hold of the Limited Edition PS4 for just £19.94, in honor of the PS1's launch in 1994. Although many would consider them lucky, but they also earned it as the price was limited to only 94 patrons and sold in a special 94-themed Sony shop.

Few other lucky PlayStation fans got their hands on the console as a part of Sony's PlayStation Experience this past weekend. There these fans were also treated to closer looks at games such as Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, The Order: 1886 along with a special concert for No Man's Sky. The PS4s were in limited supply there too - a wristband system was used - however some fans did manage to walk away with the console.

Citing the fast-selling Limited Edition PS4, some might wonder if Sony could manufacture more outside of the 12,300 unit run. There are chances such a move might take away some of the appeal of the original grey console, nevertheless, it will encourage sales. It won't be surprising if some PS1 fans pick up the consoles even if they wouldn't actually use it. This is unlike the white PS4, which without a doubt looks nice but doesn't warrant a potential second console purchase.

Even if Sony opts to not selling the consoles, the could perhaps consider selling the original grey DualShock 4 controller, which, owing to the original PlayStation logo, brings out more memories than the console itself.
