Fans Discover EXO's 'December, 2014 (The Winter's Tale)' Is Based On K. Michelle Song

K-pop fan sleuthing has resulted in the source of EXO's upcoming X-Mas Gift.

A hasthag on Tumblr, #beoriginalSM, gained traction from fans of SM Entertainment group EXO when some fans recognized the music used in the teaser for EXO's upcoming release, "December, 2014 (The Winter's Tale)." The song sounds like K. Michelle's "Long Time, No See." SM Entertainment has a history of re-making songs from foreign musicians for its artists.

The teaser video for “December, 2014 (The Winter’s Tale)” was released on December 15, and shares the same tune and signature snaps that appear in K. Michelle’s “Long Time, No See,” which was published on YouTube in 2012.

Although the teaser doesn’t show reveal the entirety of “December, 2014 (The Winter’s Tale,)” fans have concluded that SM Entertainment is using “Long Time, No See” as the basis to the song.

SM Entertainment has traditionally outsourced their songs and bought many songs from American musicians, rather than keeping in house composers. Some high profile songs include Girls’ Generation’s “Run Devil Run,” which was revealed to originally have been offered to Ke$ha, and SHINee’s “Juliette” was released by High School Musical actor Corbin Bleu as “Deal With It.”

“December 2014 (The Winter’s Tale)” will be released on December 19, along with a game to present the song with an unique experience. SM Entertainment has also announced an upcoming comeback for EXO in 2015.
