‘The Amazing Spider Man 3’ To Feature Miles Morales? No Andrew Garfield If Marvel Gets Spidey’s Rights Back! Is He Better Than Peter Parker?

The recent Sony leaks confirmed the rumors that there were negotiations between Sony and Marvel with regards to the Spider Man franchise. While most of the noise came from the fanboys, there's no doubt that the creative bigwigs from Marvel have toyed with the idea.

A report from Latino Review, a movie site that has gained a reputation for its recent scoops actually claims that Marvel Studios already has a vision of how they would handle Spider Man.

"IF the Marvel/Sony deal were to go forward, Andrew Garfield would no longer be Peter Parker and any baggage from existing films, Raimi or Webb, would be non-canonical, Marvel doesn't want any part of those films. The idea is that the Spider-Man romance movie has been played out over five installments, so any new Spider-Man films would focus on the difficulties of being a teenager and a superhero with a romance side-story, not the film's focus."

Apparently, the choice of leaving out Garfield was the point of contention:

"Marvel's desire to remove Andrew Garfield from the role was a major point of contention with Sony's Amy Pascal, traditionally a stalwart defender of the talent in her films. However, current events leave her positioned slightly weakened."

Actually, the entire Sony film outfit is weakened and this could be an opportunity for Marvel to gain full rights. There are some sectors who don't want another re-cast version of Peter Parker (we have two already) but instead (from What Culture):

"Miles Morales, for example, took over the role of Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe when Peter Parker died. He had, conveniently, also received a bite from a radioactive spider and therefore was a ready-made replacement, but he could simply be the original Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if using Peter Parker is a no-go."

They have their rationale:

"Morales would make for a refreshing take on the character and the fact that he's both black and a child would bring yet more diversity to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - something that was widely praised when Black Panther and Captain Marvel's movies were announced."

Spider Man has always appealed to a younger audience and Morales could be a fresh take for Marvel Studios, who seem to be taking a darker turn starting with "Avengers: Age of Ultron." A Morales Spider Man could keep the balance.

Would you like Miles Morales to replace Peter Parker as the big-screen Spider Man?
