Which Acting Idols Delivered The Best Performances In 2014? [Poll]

2014 was a fascinating year for the acting idol phenomenon. D.O launched his acting career, while Lee Joon decided to leave K-pop behind to become an actor.

The past year may have been difficult for K-pop but it was an excellent time to watch idols enter K-Drama. The year kicked off with some of the most innovative programming in many years including the captivating supernatural drama “Bride of the Century.” FTISLAND's Lee Hong Ki empathetically portrayed Choi Kang Joo, the lone son of a wealthy family who was struggling with a curse that lasted more than one hundred years.

Musical dramas returned from obscurity with “Trot Lovers” and “My Lovely Girl.” A Pink’s Eun Ji evoked the golden age of Hollywood with rousing musical numbers throughout the course of the show. Eun Ji shined on the screen, as she captivated audiences with her voice.

EXO’s D.O was one of the breakout stars of the year. His gripping portrayal of Kang Woo in “It’s Okay, That’s Love” was one of the most memorable roles of the year. D.O triumphed as the plot slowly unfurled to reveal that he was being conjured by Jang Jae Yeol (Jo In Sung), an acclaimed writer who was struggling with schizophrenia.

Lee Joon’s acting career increased by leaps and bounds in 2014. After his chilling role in “Gap Dong,” the news that he plans to pursue acting over participating in an idol group, is not surprising. Lee Joon is currently starring in the supernatural drama “Mr. Baek.” His balanced acting has added to the integrity of the show, helping to draw viewers in.

YoonA of Girls’ Generation conjured a mix of kindness and patience for her role as a step-mother in “Prime Minister and I.” Krystal from f(x) captured the same emotional complexity for “My Lovely Girl.” One of the biggest drawbacks for “My Lovely Girl” was the dynamic that was employed in the casting of the leads. Krystal and INFINITE’s L worked the best as a believable couple with genuine chemistry. L also demonstrated the complexity of his acting in “Cunning Single Female.”

JYJ’s Jaejoong and ZE:A’s Siwan were excellent in “Triangle.” Jaejoong’s return to acting has many K-Drama fans eager for his 2015 comeback role as Seon Woo in “SPY.” Siwan followed “Triangle” with “Misaeng,” one of the most acclaimed dramas in 2014. His role of Jang Geu Rae has won over legions of fans who can relate to the dynamics of being an office worker.

After School’s UEE helped to make “Golden Rainbow” a must-see weekend drama. As she matures, she has been placed in more nuanced roles and is no longer relegated to the narrow characters she once portrayed.

JYJ’s Yoochun and Lee Seung Gi have successfully led enough dramas that they should no longer be considered acting idols. In 2014, Yoochun led the thrilling action drama “Three Days,” while Lee Seung Gi tried on the role of a police detective in “You’re All Surrounded.”
