‘Parasyte The Maxim', ‘Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works' And ‘No Game No Life' Named Top 3 Anime Of 2014 By Fans

If you're a frequent Anime News Network visitor, you may have been very curious about their megapoll of what the best anime of 2014 would be. Considering the amount of simulcasts and english dubs made quickly available this year, it was definitely a huge amount of anime to choose from.

The results of the poll are in and over 17,000 fans rated "Parasyte the Maxim" as the best anime of 2014. The creepy sci-fi anime series was followed by Production I.G's latest version of "Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works." Rounding off the top three in the poll was "No Game No Life," notably the only anime in the top three not released this fall.

ANN review staff member Amy McNulty ranked "Parasyte the Maxim" as number three on her list of the top five anime of 2014.

"I never would have guessed that all these years later, it would get an anime adaptation that keeps me so consistently riveted," explained McNulty.

"While sometimes squirm-inducing, the animated version of Parasyte is hardly as grotesque as I remember. There's observable character growth in protagonist Shinichi Izumi, a tension-wracked plotline and the real sense that danger exists for these characters around every corner," she went on.

For any fans who may have missed the series ranked by the fans, here are the synopsis provided for each series by various anime outlets.

"Parasite the Maxim" Synopsis (via Crunchyroll):

"They arrived in silence and darkness, descending from the skies with a hunger for human flesh. Parasites - alien creatures who must invade and take control of a human host to survive - have come to Earth. No one knows their secret except high school student, Shinichi Izumi, who's right hand has been invaded by an alien parasite. Shinichi and Migi, the parasite in his hand, begrudgingly form a friendship and find themselves caught in the middle of a war between humans and parasites."

"Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works" Synopsis (via Aniplex):

"This story focuses primarily on the heroine Rin Tohsaka. After her father's death, Rin enters the Holy Grail War as the sole heir to the prestigious Tohsaka Household, with her servant Archer. But, she soon finds out that Shirou Emiya, a boy from her high school has gotten himself involved in the battles and unexpectedly saves him when he is fatally injured. Before long, Rin sets out to strike down the conspiracies surrounding the Holy Grail War along with Shirou and his summoned servant Saber. And so, the story begins to explore the truth behind Shirou's powers and the nature behind his unyielding will to become a ‘hero'."

"No Game No Life" Synopsis (via Crunchyroll):

"They are both NEETs and Hikikomoris... but on the internet, the genius gamer siblings Sora and Shiro are known as the undefeatable "__" (blank). Sora and Shiro's talents and skills are so abnormally good they are considered as urban legend. One day a young boy Teto appears before them, claiming to be ‘One's Lord'."
