How To Get Away With Murder Star Viola Davis Cast As Villain Amanda Waller In Upcoming Film Adaptation Of DC Comics Series 'Suicide Squad'

Viola Davis, star of the TV show "How To Get Away With Murder," has been chosen to play the role of Amanda Waller in the new movie "Suicide Squad." Fans are already sharing their excitement to see Viola Davis in Suicide Squad.

Suicide Squad is from DC Comics and features a team of antihero supervillains who take on dangerous black ops quests on behalf of a government agency. In return, their sentences will be reduced. The government agency is operated by Amanda Waller. Waller is responsible for the task force and has a huge role to play for the entire world in the comic books. The character has appeared in various shows like Justice League cartoons, Smallville, Green Lantern and Arrow.

In DC comics, Waller was initially a huge older woman in the 1986 story created by John Byrne, John Ostrander and Len Wein. Screen Rant wrote that her appearance was changed into a thinner, younger and attractive lady when she was featured again in the 2012 New 52 reboot. A lot of DC fans did not take the change well, since many considered her previous appearance as distinctive. Waller does not have any superpowers but is strong-minded and also referred to as "The Wall".

Aside from Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey were reportedly interested in taking on the role of Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad. None of the three actually look like the New 52 character. Davis is a lot older compared to the New 52 character but is not huge compared to the original version. A lot of fans actually prefer Viola Davis to land the role in Suicide Squad and it is worthy to note that she is also an Academy Award-nominated actress.

The Telegraph reported that earlier in December 2014, Warner Brothers announced that Jared Leto will play the role of The Joker, Tom Hardy will take on Rick Flag, Will Smith has been cast as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Boomering, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

The movie will launch in 2016 after Batman vs. Superman releases. It will be the second of 10 future Warner Brothers films that will feature the DC cinematic universe. The upcoming film will be directed by David Ayer, who also worked on Fury. Fans will have to wait almost two years to see Viola Davis in Suicide Squad.
