‘Tokyo Ghoul' Creator Sui Ishida Confirms ‘Tokyo Ghoul' Season 2 Will Be 12 Episodes Despite Fan Desires

Pacing in an anime series can either help or hurt the story. Unfortunately, pacing is usually determined by factors not associated with the actual creation of the story.

Sometimes to make a story come to life, writers are forced to compress their story to fit into episodes allotted by an animation studio.

Although this may not be the case for "Tokyo Ghoul" season two, for some fans, 12 episodes are not enough. According to reports, "Tokyo Ghoul" manga creator Sui Ishida recently responded to a tweet and confirmed that "Tokyo Ghoul" season two, "Tokyo Ghoul: Root A," will only be 12 episodes long. This confirmation comes after some fans had originally expressed a desire for the new season to be a two cour or 24 episodes total.

"Kinda expected this... Oh well, at least I hope it will have some memorable parts. I would of preferred a 2 cour adaptation," commented Stark700 in an ANN forum.

"By not following the manga, I hope they are able to give it some semblance of a conclusion. That's all I ask for with this second season," explained Relyat08. "I was pretty disappointed when I found out the first season was only 12 episodes, but if they manage to give us some closure with another 12 episode season I will be happy."

Anxiety seems to be the major feeling among fans for "Tokyo Ghoul" season two, as earlier this year Anime News Network reported that Sui Ishida was credited for an "original story concept" in the cast and crew announcements. It is admittedly somewhat unclear what this means, but most fans have settled on "original story concept" indicating that the new season will not follow the manga.

For some fans however, just the fact that Sui Ishida is involved is enough to quell any anxiety that the new season won't be worth watching.

"Tokyo Ghoul: Root A," the official title for season two of the anime, is set to begin its run on TV in Japan starting January 9, 2015. Funimation will simulcast the series for fans outside of Japan, mainly fans in North America.
