Emma Watson Topless Scene in Regression Underscores Adult Role in Abuse Film; Harry Potter Star Named Ms. Foundation’s Top Feminist Celebrity of 2014

Emma Watson proves feminism comes in many outlets. From speeches to action. Watson made a brave choice in her latest role, she takes on sexual abuse.

The Harry Potter star was recently named The Ms. Foundation's Top Feminist Celebrity of 2014 and her role as Hermione Granger was a magical feminist, smarter than her classmates and as daring as any of the boys in her class. Emma Watson was also appointed a United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador.

Emma Watson is taking on a harrowing role in her upcoming movie Regression, which is about sexual abuse. The emotionally wrenching movie details the story of a father who is arrested for sexually abusing his daughter, played by Watson.

Regression is being previewed in the United States and is scheduled for release in England in August 2015.

According to reports from early screenings of Regression, the 24-year-old English actress appears topless in at least one scene. A review in Britain's The Sun said Emma Watson topless scene is "useless and ineffective. .. You can see her breasts but they are partially obscured."

Regression also stars 'Training Day' actor Ethan Hawke and acting legend Meryl Streep.

Regression was directed by Alejandro Amenábar, who made The Others, the 2001 thriller starring Nicole Kidman.

The film is set in a small Minnesota town in 1990. According to the official synopsis, Detective Bruce Kenner, who is played by Ethan Hawk, is probing the case of a young woman named Angela (Emma Watson), who has accused her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of a sexually abusing her. The father admits guilt, but says he doesn't remember the crime. Dr. Raines, a psychologist played by David Thewlis, regresses the father to help relive his memories unearthing a much bigger problem.

Emma Watson was named The Ms. Foundation's Top Feminist Celebrity of 2014. Laverne Cox, Rachel Maddow, Beyonce, Cher, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Meryl Streep, Mindy Kaling, and Ann Curry were also on the list.

"We celebrate all feminists every day, but today we're giving a hat tip to celebrities who are helping to promote women's equality. Every celebrity on the list has either embraced the term 'feminist', spoken out for women's equal rights or battled against sexist oppression," said foundation CEO Teresa Younger.

Watson was also appointed a United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador.

Regression will hit theaters next August.
