Andrew Wiggins Better Than LeBron James? Report Claims 2014 NBA Rookie Projects Better Skills Than LeBron In 2003! Will Maple Jordan Live Up To Hype?

Andrew Wiggins is now the top NBA Rookie of 2014 by default. Two players drafted right after him, Jabari Parker and Joel Embiid, are out for the season. Now, the first overall pick can prove his dominance with less pressure. Will he be better than LeBron James in his rookie campaign?

This was a question that ESPN sought to answer. It's a tough question and all we can have are projections. The other variables that come into play like the quality of opponents will have to be discarded. Still, the analysis is the closest we have to answering the question and settling the debate.

One of the common traits between the two players is their freakish athleticism:

"Purely as a physical specimen -- combining his speed, quickness, jumping and overall agility -- Wiggins might indeed be slightly more athletic than LeBron was in his first season. This may sound absurd when considering what a freak athlete LeBron was at 18 years old (and about 45-50 pounds heavier than Wiggins), but that's just how gifted Wiggins is."

However, using it on the court is another question: "Wiggins may be a better pure athlete than LeBron, but he is not using those gifts as well as LeBron did, with or without the ball. It's something that Wiggins can improve on, and he is already making progress."

Wiggins, however, is a better defender than LeBron James was in his rookie year: "In Minnesota, Flip Saunders has Wiggins defend primary scorers throughout every game. That is helping him gain valuable experience, which will quicken his ascent."

But James has better passing skills and the versatility to play any position on the court. Wiggins is simply an athlete who can score and defend. James already has the maturity to lead at 18 years old.

The conclusion reflects that:

"Wiggins' lack of ball skills and overall feel, and perhaps a motor that just doesn't run hot often enough, lowers his ceiling. Wiggins doesn't have a chance to be a top-five player of all time, but he can be a top-five player in the NBA for a number of years. And that should make everybody happy."

That's agreeable for everyone. LeBron is a once in a decade player, and a decade has passed since he came in the NBA. No one has yet to take his throne.
