Sony's Angry Birds Movie Release Date Is Sooner Than We Expected

Fans of the popular mobile game "Angry Birds" are about to see the characters on "Angry Birds: The Movie" on May 20, 2016.

IGN.com reported that the "Angry Birds" movie was initially slated to launch on July 1, 2016. "Tarzan" by Dreamworks, The BFG and Warner is also set to release on the same date, so producers might have decided to advance the screening period by about six weeks.

"Angry Birds" The Movie is based on the mobile game which was eventually made into a TV franchise for children. The movie is written by Jon Vitti, writer of "The Simpsons" and directed by Clay Kaytis, former animator of "Frozen" and Fergal Reilly, former animator of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". John Cohen will produce the film.

Angry Birds will star Jason Sudeikis, Danny McBride, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Maya Rudolph, Tony Hale, Keegan-Michael Key and Kate McKinnon.

Rovio.com previously reported that Sudeikis will play the lead character Red, a bird with temper issues. Gad will take on the role of Chuck while McBride will play the role of Bomb. Hader is on the side of the pigs. Rudolph will play Matilda while Dinklage will play the legendary Mighty Eagle.

Blanca Juti, chief marketing officer of Rovio, said, "We heard limbs and dialogue were all the rage in modern animation so we went all in. Not just one, but all of our characters have legs and wings! Except for the pigs, that is."

Key, McKinnon and Hale will have supporting roles in the "Angry Birds" movie. The supporting cast also includes Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell and Danielle Brooks. Grammy nominee Romeo Santos and YouTube stars Smosh, comprised of Ian Andrew Hecox and Anthony Padilla, will also be appearing in the movie.

Producer Cohen said about the upcoming all-star comedy, "I'm extremely proud of this cast. Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya, and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they're surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent - these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we're thrilled to have them all on board."

An "Angry Birds: The Movie First Look" video was previously featured on YouTube.com.
