Charli XCX To Break The Rules On New MTV Showcase; Charli XCX Launches New Album By Popping Out of a Cake; Joins Iggy Azealia Azalea Banks Feud

Charli XCX, the "Break the Rules" singer, is having a sweet year. The British pop singer just celebrated the launch of her new album "Sucker" by popping out of a cake in a catsuit and tiara.

MTV announced that   Charli XCX and Clean Bandit will headline the MTV Brand New For 2015 showcases in January. The new series will feature special performances from some of the hottest new talent next year.

"MTV have been so supportive of me, I was super excited to be a part of MTV Brand New back in 2012 when I was just starting out, so to perform at the January showcase is a really nice feeling for me. It's really important to champion new music and new artists early on, so I think it's great that MTV Brand New can act as a platform for such incredible talent," Charli XCX said.

Charli XCX and current shortlist acts James Bay and Sinead Harnett will perform at the Islington Assembly Hall with Clean Bandit and Brand New shortlist acts Years & Years and Saint Raymond on January 28.

"This year has been an absolute roller-coaster. I'm so excited to have been chosen as part of the MTV Brand New shortlist for 2015 and I can't wait to perform to everyone at the showcase at the beginning of the year," said James Bay.

Charli XCX is in growing demand as a songwriter. She wrote the 2012 smash "I Love It," for Swedish duo Icona Pop as well the 2014 Iggy Azalea summer anthem "Fancy."

The British hit maker who was born Charlotte Emma Aitchison in East Hertfordshire, England, told Seventeen magazine for the December/January issue that she will now be the voice on her own songs.

"I'm going to build an empire. I'm always writing for someone else,' she said. 'I want to be someone who has her fingerprints all over the pop charts," she said.

Charli XCS recently came to the defense of Iggy Azalea in the ongoing feud with Azealia Banks. Iggy and Charli XCX met when Azalea they co-wrote the Number One smash single Fancy.

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has been a hater's favorite since she beat Eminem and Drake for favorite rap/hip hop artist and album at the American Music Awards. Azealia Banks called out Iggy Azalea for being a white artist who is stealing black culture to win over rap audiences.

"Iggy's not only a rap star, right now at this moment in time she's a pop icon."And pop icons can do whatever the f- they want. They don't have to stick within the boundaries. They don't have to play the rules the right way. David Bowie didn't. I'm not comparing her to Bowie, but who gives a f-? It's just because it's hip-hop. There's people who really think about rap and hip-hop in such an old school way," Charli XCX told news.com.au.

Charli XCX released "Sucker," her second album, on Monday, December 15. The new Charli XCX album includes "Break The Rules" and "Boom Clap," which rose to No. 8 on Billboard's Hot 100 after being featured in the movie "The Fault in Our Stars."

Charli XCX will j be Katy Perry's  special guest on the European leg of the "I Kissed a Girl" singer's "Prismatic Tour." Charli will then headline her own eight-city tour of the United Kingdom. She will announce North American tour dates soon.
