The new year is finally here and 2015 has a lot in store for many of K-pop's biggest stars.  Here are the top three K-pop news stories that got our attention for this first week of January.

Jonghyun of SHINee Releases Teasers For Impending Debut

SM Entertainment announced in 2014 that several artists under its label would pursue solo activities in 2015. Shortly after New Year's Eve, SM revealed that the first artist to go solo in 2015 will be SHINee singer Jonghyun. The idol has released some information about his debut, including a teaser video and teaser images. Jonghyun will collaborate with several other famous Korean vocalists, including Younha and Wheesung.

Jonghyun will release his mini-album "Base" on January 12, but he'll be appearing on Korean music shows to promote his title song beginning on January 9.

Big Bang Discusses Working On New Material For Comeback

At a New Year's Eve performance on December 31, Big Bang's G-Dragon announced that 2015 would a big year for the quintet. The group have not made a comeback as whole in several years, leading to multiple rumors about their potential demise. However, G-Dragon's words reassured fans: "We are planning something big for this year. We will be making a comeback with a new album and new tour. We will return with great music and performances."

Big Bang is in the midst of a Japanese dome tour, and member Taeyang will begin a solo tour of Asia in February.

EXO Fans Upset Over Baekhyun-Taeyeon Couple Phones

Some who were looking in EXO's latest photobook were upset by the inclusion of member Baekhyun's cell phone in the picture. The phone itself wasn't the problem, but the fact that his phone case was visible, the same phone case that his girlfriend, Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, uses. Korean netizens took to the Internet, outraged that a photobook meant for the fans included a sign of Baekhyun and Taeyeon's relationship. The two confirmed their relationship in June, after being spotted on dates together by Korean reporters.
