The Enthralling Wonder Girls Performance at The Hard Rock Café in Times Square

If you happened to be on Broadway at the corner of 44th Street last night at about 5 PM, you would have seen a very rare sight enough to do a double take. Led by the warm and friendly smile of Yenny, were the Wonder Girls walking the streets of New York City. The girls were on their way to the Hard Rock Café in Times Square to perform a concert for the Ty Loves NY Monster Birthday Bash, in celebration of the birthday of radio personality Ty Bentli of 92.3 NOW FM.

The Wonder Girls started off with a bang, with "Like This," a song with incredibly captivating dance steps. Quickly following in a rapid bust was "The DJ is Mine" and "Nu Shoes." At this time, the energy in the hall was through the roof. With such a strong start, the Wonder Girls showed their fans they know how to throw a party.

So, to simmer things down a bit following their self-introduction, five stools were brought out for the girls to sit on. They then performed, in the words of Yenny, "some sweet songs." They started with Yenny's penned song, "Stay Together" and then followed it with "Ouch." After singing "Ouch," Lim in her wide-eyed innocence, cutely stated that it was one of her favorite songs. Both songs are yet to be released and were performed for the first time at their last visit to New York back in September.

The crowd loving every moment yelled out loudly in incoherence, when Sohee asked, "Who wants to hear some of our Korean hit songs?" The song that seemed to have won was "Tell Me." With smooth, flowing, and well... mellifluous movements, the girls danced to the alluring "Tell Me." And then something with a touch exhilarating happened when the unmistaken beats of "So Hot" began to permeate through the speakers.

With terawatts of energy already beaming out from the stage, "So Hot" came on and both audience and performers alike amped it up even further. Speaking to a fan after the show, she mentioned that "So Hot" was special for the Wonder Girls, because it was one of the two songs that really shot them to stardom in Asia, even before "Nobody" became notable in the United States. The Wonder Girls have not performed "So Hot" in the United States for a while now, so there must have been some bottled-up desire for this song on the part of the fans.

Next up was "Be My Baby" with its staccato movements. Then in a display of pure vocal ability, the Wonder Girls sang acappella, a part of their newly released Christmas single in collaboration for a Special Olympics album titled, 'Best Christmas Ever' which is now available on iTunes.

Although many fans had by now forgotten the real reason for the concert, Sohee reminded everyone that it was Ty's birthday and called him up to the stage. After both the crowd and audience had sung him happy birthday, a beautiful large blue and white cake was wheeled onto the stage. For his birthday present, Ty was given the new JYP Diamond Tears headphones in an unwrapped box, for all to appreciate.

The program director for 92.3 NOW FM, who controls the playlist for the radio station, was also called onto the stage and the girls expressed their thankfulness for all the great things he's done for them by including "Like Money" on the station playlist. The girls also presented him with JYP Diamond Tear Drop headphones. The program director, who's clearly a fan of the Wonder Girls, demonstrated his great appreciation by hugging each of them. Although Yubin got more than what she bargained for when she was lifted clear off the ground.

To wrap up the dynamic, energetic and passionate concert, the Wonder Girls performed "Nobody" and "Like Money." It was prevalent throughout the entire show that these girls clearly love what they do. Before "Like Money," Lim thanked all the fans for requesting it on the radio, because it contributed to making the event possible. The event was sponsored by New York's own 92.3 NOW FM, Monster's Diamond Tears team and Hard Rock Café.

A little over a month ago, The Wonder Girls were in New York City doing a media tour for the promotion of "Like Money". When they stopped by 92.3 NOW FM, according to the station's managing editor, the girls got along very well with the radio personalities and personnel, which can be translated to mean they fell in love with the Wonder Girls, and so decided to invite them back to New York City to perform Ty's birthday concert. In addition, the editor continued that along with Psy's recent explosion in the United States that the radio station also wanted to tap into the growing popularity of K-Pop in the United States.

Oprah once said, luck is preparation coming together with opportunity. No other K-pop group is more prepared and ready than the Wonder Girls to capitalize on the recent explosion of K-pop in the United States, in part facilitated by Psy's "Gangnam Style". It has been questioned repeatedly over the years if the Wonder Girls made a wise decision to come live in the United States back in 2009 for about two years. The fact that there are really only two K-Pop artists and songs at this moment with regular rotation on major American radio stations, "Like Money", and Psy's "Gangnam Style" is a vindication for JYP and the Wonder Girls.

Over the next few days, the Wonder Girls will continue their media tour to Orlando and Houston for more radio appearances and concerts. As usual, stay tuned to KpopStarz for all future activities of the Wonder Girls, both here in the United States and around the world.
