2NE1 Brings K-Pop 'Girl Power' to the States with the Help of will.i.am

K-Pop has been making its way over to the U.S. as Psy and his "Gangnam Style" take over the world. Girl group 2NE1 is seen as the next group to make it big in the states.

2NE1 debuted in 2009 and sold 27 million digital downloads online. They were also awarded the MTV Iggy's 'Best New Band in the World' Award in 2011. They performed their first U.S. performance in New Jersey on their 'NEW EVOLUTION' world tour.

MTV News had the chance to talk with 2NE1 and found out that they were working with will.i.am for a debut english album.

CL commented, "We have done lots of sessions and we are working on some songs. We are waiting for that magic song to come around."

2NE1 also stated that they are not sure of a certain date for their debut english album, but they hope to at least release a single. CL commented, "I want an english album so that everyone can connect to the lyrics."

2NE1 also stated that TLC and the Spice Girls were their inspirations for becoming a group with unique styles.

Other girl groups such as the Wonder Girls and Girls' Generation are also trying to break into the U.S. market, but 2NE1 explains that there is no competition because each group each has something different to bring to the table.

CL also commented, "Korea is very passionate about music and performances. Girl power is rocking it in K-Pop these days and I am so happy about that."
