K-Pop Crossover: Angelica Takes Time Out From Preparing Her Follow Up To 'Do I Love You' To Talk Hallyu [EXCLUSIVE]

Angelica Abrams has spent her life in the recording studio.

Her father, Conley Abrams, is a music industry veteran who worked with hip-hop legends like Tupac Shakur, P. Diddy, Queen Latifah, Lil Romeo, Dr. Dre and helped engineer the Michael Jackson album "Bad."

A Los Angeles native, Abrams is known professionally as Angelica. She has been playing piano since she was four and can sing, dance, write and produce.

Angelica released her 2012 debut album, "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)" when she was 16 years old.

The musician also builds storyboards for and edits her own music videos, including the clip for her anti-human trafficking song "Far Away," from her upcoming album.

Earlier this week, Angelica, who describes her forthcoming second album as an energetic blend of soul, dance and rock, left the studio long enough to discuss her love of South Korean pop music in a KpopStarz exclusive interview.

"It has a lively spark of energy that drives it, a very unique way of popping out," Angelica said, regarding the K-pop genre in general. "It makes a bold statement."

The adventurous artist, appreciates that Hallyu artists combine "different styles into one song: such as a song with a hip-hop feel mixed with rock guitars or an electronic dance beat mixed with more classical sounding strings."

But that's not all that speaks to Angelica about the genre.

"[Another] element we share is the way the hooks are catchy and make you want to sing along," she explained.

The singer-songwriter is no newbie when it comes to the South Korean pop. Angelica has been keeping tabs on the scene for a while.

"I have a few friends who are absolute K-pop fanatics and they keep me up to date on everything going on in the K-pop music scene," she said. "Also, as a producer and artist, I love always staying current on music trends in all genres worldwide, including K-pop."

When asked who her favorite South Korean artists are, Angelica said it was impossible for her to just pick one.

"BTS, SHINee, EXO, B.A.P, HA:TFELT, and Red Velvet are a few," she said.

"I love the songs and videos for EXO's 'Overdose,' Red Velvet's 'Happiness,' SHINee's 'Everybody,' Toheart's 'Delicious' and HA:TFELT's 'Ain't Nobody,'" Angelica said.

But the recording studio veteran adds that each act has something original to offer.

"I think each K-pop artist has a very unique vibe, so I would say they do a wonderful job," she said.
