Why Malia Obama’s Selfie Leak On Instagram May Get Her In Trouble

An unknown Instagram user posted an alleged photo of President Barack Obama's 16-year-old daughter Malia, where she is seen sporting a Pro Era t-shirt-the label promotes the Brooklyn-based rap collective that features Joey Bada$, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight and others.

Although the publisher and photographer of the image remains unknown, Joey Bada$ has confirmed to several media organizations that the photo was received from a "mutual friend of Malia" and that it was used for promotional purposes.

The selfie leak has sparked controversy considering the Obama family's strict policy on social media use for their children.

In fact, in 2013, first lady Michelle Obama revealed during an interview with Barbara Walters that she doesn't want her children to spend too much time on social media. She even divulged that the family's youngest daughter, Sasha, was not allowed access at all.

"I still am not a big believer in Facebook for young people ... particularly for them, because they're in the public eye," Michelle Obama said during the interview on the 20/20 program.

"Some of it's stuff they don't need to see and be a part of ... So we try to protect them from too much of the public voice."

Malia Obama may have stricter rules on accessing social media accounts now that her alleged leaked selfie may have put the family's security on the line.
