Wonder Girls: The Secrets of Staying Wonderful

In Malaysia last weekend, then in the United States shortly after that all through this week, the Wonder Girls are quite mastering the art of flying through time zones.  Jet setting through continents, honoring commitments and having some interactive time with the fans keeps the girl group of five more than busy.  Their stamina is one to be admired -- able to passionately perform in concerts and showcases and give inspiring speeches.  More than that, their bubbly personalities and optimistic attitude are collective traits that make Wonder Girls truly Wonderful.

As revealed in their press conference in Malaysia for the second stop of the Wonder World Tour in Asia by M Live, the girls still do maintain some sense of 'normalcy' in their bustling daily lives.  Sun finds herself blissful in a relationship -- one wherein her other members in the group are fully supportive.  Her cheerful attitude towards this aspect of her personal life gives fans a glimpse of Sun's priorities.  As Wonder Girls' leader she understands that she also has a commitment towards their fans, and with that promised to be open about any major decisions she makes about her life.

The Wonder Girls also grab at all the opportunities they could get to expand their horizons.  When asked about their acting experience at the same Malaysia press conference, Yenny shared that except for Sohee, their first movie was an exhilarating experience as it was a first for all of them.  While they may have played their own selves in their movie, the process, filming and preparing was actually a way for them to get to know each other better.

Indeed, the Wonder Girls show that they are a group who sees the optimistic side of that half-empty/half-full glass, when asked about the challenges they face so far, they go back to a time when it was difficult -- when they first came to the United States, grappling with the English language and struggling to understand a foreign culture.  However, they don't look back with regret, instead we see all of their eyes light up saying that it was a treasured time of their life -- what with growing up to American music and then finally being part of it.

While groups are sprouting left and right in K-Pop, the Wonder Girls continue to hold their own, and even seem to be traversing their own trajectory.   When asked what sets them apart from other groups, Lim says "We just try to make better music and be ourselves", to which Yenny adds that new groups are actually a welcome scenario to them, "It is really great to see more K-Pop artists. They have all different kind of styles, and therefore adding more color to K-Pop." Of course, of the groups that are just recently starting out they proudly endorse their very own JJ Project and 15&.

As if they still had all the time in the world even with their packed schedules, it was fun to see the Wonder Girls get excited about the possibility of doing acting in the future.  Lim is keen on trying rom-com, while Sun, Yenny, and Yubin all would want to try action.   Sohee maintains her uniqueness saying she wants to do teenage or high school drama, just to be able to don the school uniform again.

In the Malaysia Wonder World Tour concert, the Wonder Girls performed a similar 23-song packed set-list as done in Singapore.  True to their tradition of honoring their hosts, the girls also wore the Malaysian traditional dress --the Baju Kurung.

It doesn't matter where the Wonder Girls perform, they give their all for each performance.  Nonetheless, they are energized by the love equally as passionately given by their fans all over the world.  Light sticks, balloons, fan boards and a chorus of voices singing in unison with them are one of the reasons they can keep going.

After the concert in Malaysia, the Wonder Girls are putting audiences in America in awe as Sun gave her inspiring speech about her thoughts on the Hallyu wave at a symposium in George Washington University in the US capitol.  After that, the girls were back on the road performing in New York, Orlando and Houston.

They will be back in Asia for the Indonesia stop of their Asia Tour on November 3.
