900 Days After Its Release, Psy's 'Gangnam Style' Video Tops 2.2 Billion Views

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” has hit another record in 2015.

“Gangnam Style,” which was released on July, 15, 2012, has now reached over 2.2 billion views as of January 7, 2015. It has reached this number in 907 days since its release.

“Gangnam Style” had hit a 100 million views just 51 days after its release. It then hit 1.5 billion views in April of 2013. Last year in October it was at 2.1 billion views.

Due to the continuous views and popularity of “Gangnam Style,” YouTube had to fix their systems to allow for a video to reach more views. Before Psy, there had not been a video that had reached this many views before.

Last year during his year-end concert, he stated that it was routine to have a new song to perform at his concerts, however, after “Gangnam Style,” he was not able to release a new song. He stated, “Honestly, its just 3 minutes of my concert that is missing if I don’t have a new song.”

He added that he hopes to create and make more songs next year instead of trying to succeed with just one song like “Gangnam Style.”

He plans to continue making music that he likes and hopes that other people will like it too, according to reports.

Psy’s “Gangnam Style” became a huge phenomenon in 2012 after its release in July. It also topped YouTube’s ‘Most Viewed Videos’ monthly chart that year as well.

In August of 2012, it topped the iTunes Music Video Chart and beat Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me.”

After this unexpected international popularity, he signed with Scooter Braun to promote in the states.

A few months later in November of 2012, “Gangnam Style” made a record and became the most viewed video in the history of YouTube.

Early in 2013, he performed at the South Korea presidential inauguration ceremony as well.
