K-Pop Throwback: BTOB Bring The Big Beat On Last Year's Highly Overlooked 'Hello Melo' [AUDIO]

As any dance music fan knows, if a song has a dope beat, you can forgive a lot.

The chord progression on the BTOB single "Hello Melo," released in February of 2014, is nothing we haven't heard in dozens of different languages in pop music from around the world.

But with a rhythm track that hits you right in your gut and some solid rapping, "Hello Melo" was a song that deserved more attention than it got.

BTOB's production team clearly knows how to get a fantastic sound out of a drum loop. Listen to this song on big speakers and prepare to be knocked out. And though there are moments that err a bit too much on the saccharine side for this reviewer's taste, they are redeemed with some thoroughly musical, impressive rhymes that are backed up with a giant bass drum and snare sound.

Anyone seeking proof of the power of the rhythm track in "Hello Melo," needs only to skip to the song's two-and-a-half minute mark.

Though all of the rappers and singers in BTOB undeniably have talent, that melody and those words enter a world of nearly unbearable cheesiness for a few seconds, before your best buddy the beat comes back in, washing away all memories of songwriting cliché.

But perhaps the most important and redeeming thing about "Hello Melo" are the BTOB members themselves. These seven guys clearly mean it.

There is an honesty and earnestness that shines through even in the songs more over-the-top moments. Even the spoken dialog at the end of the song, a well-worn pop device, is done intelligently and with sincerity, expressing an emotion that anyone who's ever been in a relationship can probably relate to.

"So, ah, what's going on between us, now? Are we together? We are? Cool."
