Penny Dreadful was a breakout hit for Starz this past year, and a major vehicle for Eva Green. Now the cast and crew are making season 2. Here is what is in store for the upcoming season, including a new promo trailer which you can watch below.

Den of Geek reports, "This season, Vanessa and Ethan form a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and Sembene (Danny Sapani), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), the Creature (Rory Kinnear) and Brona (Billie Piper) are all waging battles of their own. Patti LuPone will guest star as a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa's past. Helen McCrory returns as Evelyn Poole (a.k.a. Madame Kali), the seductive spiritualist who will pose a unique threat to our protagonists this season, along with Simon Russell Beale, who is back as eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle. Additional guest stars include Douglas Hodge as a Scotland Yard investigator; Sarah Greene as Poole's powerful daughter, Hecate; and Johnny Beauchamp as a man with a singular past.

Penny Dreadful season one rather infamously dealt with several supernatural threats that didn't have a clear visage or scheme. Much like the Bram Stoker's epistolary novel, Mina Harker's "Master" vampire is never seen onscreen, nor are his intentions beyond turning Vanessa Ives "into the Mother of Evil" fully known. Yet while Dracula was merely hinted at by Renfield-like characters and hordes of ghoulish cadavers, there was also the more omnipotent demonic force, be it the Devil or ancient Egypt's Ra (depending on the on the episode), who would often speak through Vanessa in "Possession" or take the shapes of other men in her life."

The IB Times reports, "Vanessa's possession following intimacy with Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) proved that her emotions seem to be directly tied to her more supernatural inclinations, and so the death of Mina during the season one finale could just have a bigger impact during the program's second season than fans might think," according to Enstarz.

"Penny Dreadful" Season 1 ended with Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) making a huge decision as he have to make a choice between Vanessa and Mina. Now that she lost her bestfriend and confidant, Vanessa is seeing her curse as a blessing as she face new challenges and old enemies for the upcoming season.

A much bigger season than Season 1, "Penny Dreadful" returns with new antagonists and new friends who will bring more conflicts for the show's lead stars. Based on the show's new trailer, the main characters' past will continue to haunt them as they try to fight the evil supernatural forces in Victorian London."

The Christian Post reports, "In a report by Enstars.com, Vanessa Ives' (Eva Green) interesting romantic link with Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) "could still be brought up" when season 2 arrives. The reason for such speculation is based on the abundance of Vanessa-Dorian scenes in the latest promotional video posted up by Showtime.

However, new image stills also suggest that Josh Hartnett's Ethan Chandler will also have a share of romantic attention from the "formidable beauty." In one particular picture, Ethan was seen holding Vanessa who appears to be quite distraught.

Show creator John Logan himself, dished out some information on what to expect when the Victorian-era horror drama returns to the small screen.

"This season Vanessa and Ethan face new challenges, and old enemies, and turn to each other for solace. Their intimacy grows as they are forced to confront their demons together," Logan said in his Facebook page post.

"It's a very beautiful relationship," Eva Green meanwhile told E! News.
