2012 Rookie Idol Groups that Disappeared from Music Charts, 'Where are They?'

Over 50 idol groups have debuted this past year and most of them you might not have even heard of. With only a few performances on cable or mainstream broadcasts, it would be hard to catch them on screen.

If we take a look at the online music charts, you can see how competitive the groups are. On today's current Melon real time charts, the only two idol groups that are in the top 10 are miss A and Block B. It has been 3 years since miss A's debut and 2 years since Block B's debut.

If we take a wider look and look at the top 100 chart, we see Orange Caramel, 15&, SECRET, FTISLAND, Jewelry, SISTAR, TVXQ, OFFROAD, KARA, 2NE1, Davichi, SPICA, Rania, BEAST and others. From this list, there are only 2 groups that have debuted this year, SPICA and OFFROAD.

The Mnet Chart is also the same. Looking at today's current chart, there's miss A, Wonder Boyz, Orange Caramel, Block B, FTISLAND, SECRET, TVXQ, 2NE1, Jewelry, KARA, miss S, SPICA, T-ARA, B.A.P and others. Again, the only idol group that debuted this year that is in high ranking is Block B and Wonder Boyz.

It is the similar outcome on the other online music charts as well. Idol groups that debuted in 2012 cannot be found on these charts. Does that mean those idol groups are currently not active right now? If we take a look at the October 18 Mnet "M! Countdown" episode and the October 19 KBS "Music Bank" episode, you will see that they are in fact active.

On "M! Countdown," idol groups that debuted this year was BTOB, AOA, TimeZ and Wonder Boyz.

On "Music Bank," idol groups that debuted this year that performed were BTOB, Big Star, 100%, Chaos, Mister Mister, AOA, OFFROAD, 84LY, EXID and more.

Idol groups such as Gangkiz, FIESTAR, Skarf, Tiny-G, NEP, JJ Project, NU'EST, C-Clown and others did perform, just not for a long time.

One agency official commented, "Idol groups these days don't even expect to have their song on the charts or to even win number 1. Their goal is to first have their name known to the public. They need to become known first before they can do anything."

Another official commented, "Usually the song has to be good, but because songs these days are written by the same producer, they are all the same. If all groups are going to have the same style of songs, it's better to find a group that has already has their name known to the public."

A different official commented, "Even though they all look different, it all comes down to if the song is good and will stick to the public's ears. There seems to be no difference between groups these days."

It seems that because these groups are only looking for success, they are not able to make it even in the top 100 or top 10. The idol groups and agencies should reevaluate how they are creating their groups before just mass producing many groups that are almost the same.
