A Korean word that derives from the Chinese characters "love (ae)" and "beautiful (gyo)", the act of performing aegyo is usually done by women and most often an overly cute (sometimes to the point of nauseating) way of gaining attention from someone you like.

While it's something that turns off most people, many K-Pop fans seem to eat it up. Idols are often asked to show aegyo as a type of "fanservice" and many deject it but it's often a great way to gain affectionate responses from viewers.

While there are many adorable guys in K-Pop who pull off aegyo filled expressions effortlessly, fans are also commenting on the not-so-cute aegyo attempts. Idols like Bang Yong Guk and Kris Wu, who naturally have a cool and manly exterior, are often asked to produce their cutest facial expressions for fans. And while they usually fail to be as cute as their other members, it doesn't stop fans from squealing with happiness at the sight of forced aegyo.
