Brown Eyed Girls Member GaIn Lands On SPIN's '101 Best Songs Of 2014' List With 'Fxxk U'

Nearly a year after it's release, GaIn's 'Fxxk U' is making headlines again, this time in SPIN magazine.

Brown Eyed Girls member GaIn released her racy video for her solo single "Fxxk U" in February of 2014 and the song recently found its way on to SPIN magazine's list of the '101 Best Songs of 2014.'

"Fxxk U,' which featured Korean rapper Bumkey, served as GaIn's title track for her third solo album Truth or Dare.

While the music video (featuring GaIn's now-beau Joo Ji Hoon) was slapped with a 19+ rating for it's overtly adult themes, the single managed to top music charts across Korea, becoming one of that month's biggest hits.

"Fxxk U" came in on SPIN's list at number 95. ""Fuck you / Don't want it now" are the least mistakable lines to us Westerners in this singular K-pop hit," writes SPIN staffer Dan Weiss. "The fatalistic video and shards of English lyrics display rape and domestic violence in jarring contrast to the loungy, tropicalia-style beat, while the odd chords and inverted "oooh-oooh" response vocals travel backward."

"Supposedly about the aftermath of a woman beginning to say "no" to her partner, the visuals of "Fxxk U" spurt blood while the jazzy calm of the music never tips its hand."

"It's upsettingly fitting," Weiss concludes.

GaIn is noted as the sole Korean artist on SPIN's 2014 list which also featured worldwide acts like Beyonce, Usher, Robyn, and Katy Perry. The number 1 selection went to "Seasons (Waiting on You)" by Future Islands.
