‘Top Gun 2' Movie Closer To Reality! 'Mission Impossible 5' Star Tom Cruise Getting Ready For The Sequel?

Jerry Bruckheimer and Skydance are reportedly working doubly hard to bring "Top Gun 2" closer to reality, while lead star Tom Cruise is still busy with "Mission Impossible 5."

The team has recently added "The Jungle Book" writer Justin Marks as part of the crew. Reportedly, he has been tapped to pen the script for Cruise's planned sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Reportedly, director Jon Favreau was really impressed with Marks' work for Disney's version of "The Jungle Book" that he made sure to have the writer on board.

Furthermore, Adam Goodman, Paramount head of production is reportedly making "Top Gun 2" his priority.

"We'll likely make a Top Gun sequel with Tom Cruise first. Jerry Bruckheimer would produce, with Tony Scott returning to direct. All parties are moving ahead. We've hired Peter Craig to write the script," he explained.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise, who played the iconic character Lt. Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell gamely shared his thoughts about the upcoming project by Jerry Bruckheimer during an interview with Sky News.

''With movies, they each have their time - when it's ready to be made. If we can get over some stumbling blocks it will be fun to do.''

In addition, Bruckheimer is said to be really persistent in bringing "Top Gun 2" to the big screen after long and failed trials over the years.

"We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer," he told The Huffington Post

"Don (Simpson) and I tried to develop something, we didn't succeed. (Tom) Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn't succeed. Now we're back at it," he explained

"Top Gun's" original director Tony Scott, on the other hand, reportedly thought of the sequel's would be plot before he passed away in 2012.

"The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay," Bruckheimer revealed.

"It's just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he's very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that [studio] Paramount feels they can make the picture."
