Install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update On Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300; Custom Firmware Resurrection Remix ROM Released

Galaxy S3 users eager to upgrade their smartphone's OS can now install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update via a custom firmware.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 became available in the market on May 2012, running Android 4.0.4 OS at launch. The GSM Arena's specs list for the smartphone noted that the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is the latest and official update currently available for the S3.

But thanks to custom ROM developers, adventurous Android users can use a custom ROM called Resurrection Remix to install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Samsung Galaxy S3. Specifically, the update is available for the S3 units bearing the model number GT-I9300. To check the phone's model number, go to Settings > About Phone and then look for the Model Number option.

International Business Times noted that the Resurrection Remix is based on CyanogenMod 12, which is a more popular custom ROM for Android devices. Created by XDA member, varund7726, the Ressurection Remix custom firmware "brings a blend of latest Lollipop features taken from CyanogenMod (CM), Slim, Omni and original Remix ROM builds in a rare combination of performance, customisation and power."

The download links for the necessary installation files as well as the step-by-step guide on how to install Android 5.0.2 Lollipop via the Resurrection Remix firmware are available on this IB Times post. Properly follow the instructions provided on the report to avoid possible damages and issues on the smartphone.

Also, there are few prerequisites that will ensure a successful custom ROM update. First, users need to make sure that the battery level of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 80 percent or even higher before flashing the ROM on the device. This will prevent the phone from automatically turning off from running out of power due to low battery. Take note that any power interruptions can cause potential damage to the device.

Make sure to turn on USB Debugging Mode of the Samsung Galaxy S3 by going to Settings >> Developer Options.

A backup of all the relevant data and settings stored on the smartphone is also necessary. To create one, use ClockWorkMod or other recommended custom recovery tools.

The smartphone should connect to the PC easily and to do so, install the appropriate USB driver on the computer.
