Blizzard Of 2015 May Drop Up To 3 Feet Of Snow On New England, More Than 3,000 Flights Canceled [PHOTO]

New Yorkers and New Englanders get ready - the blizzard of 2015 is coming your way. According to Accuweather, a monster snowstorm and blizzard is to be expected Monday night through Tuesday, and heavily-populated zones from New York City to Boston to Portland, Maine, will be brought to a standstill.

New York Magazine reports that the storm is expected to dump 36 inches of snow on the Northeast, along with freezing rain and powerful winds. The national weather service issued a warning stating, "Crippling and potentially historic blizzard to impact the area from late today into Tuesday," as well as "Life-threatening conditions and extremely dangerous travel due to heavy snowfall and strong winds." There will also be near whiteout conditions, with visibility at "one quarter mile or less at times."

The blizzard is potentially historic in that it could break New York's record of 26.9 inches of snow set in 2006. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio stated, "I want everyone to understand that we are facing, most likely, one of the largest snowstorms in the history of this city. My message to all New Yorkers is prepare for something worse than we have seen before. Prepare to be safe. Take every precaution ... Don't underestimate this storm."

Many airlines have already canceled their flights and waived change fees for passengers. According to New York Magazine, airlines canceled more than 1,650 flights on Monday and 1,450 scheduled for Tuesday. In the New York area, 1,000 flights were canceled in Newark, as well as more than 600 at JFK and nearly 500 at LaGuardia.

Conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday, and crews should be able to begin the clean-up process. Roughly 500 salt spreaders will be deployed before the storm, and more than 2,000 plows will be available. Furthermore, the agency's employees are scheduled to work 12-hour shifts, with 2,400 workers on each shift.

To those in the area - prepare for the storm well and stay safe!
