K-Pop Review: Blockbuster by Block B

After a long and agonizing wait, Block B made an explosive comeback with their 1st full length album, Blockbuster, following a 10 month hiatus after serious controversy cut their last promotions short. Biased or not there is no denying that this album is one of the best this year. Block B has proven that they can bounce back from the worst of situations, and that they are a force to reckon with among the flood of rookie groups of 2011-2012.

Their title track, "닐리리맘보 (Nillili Mambo)," is another of their signature hip hop songs. However, this time they've switched it up by adding a really theatrical and grand instrumental that reflect the Pirates of the Caribbean theme of their music video. Combined with the their now signature nonsensical lyrics [닐리리맘보 (Nillili Mambo)] Block B shows they have really stepped it up for this comeback.

"Mental Breaker" and "장난없다 (No Joke)" are my two contenders for favorite song on this album. While "Mental Breaker" is so catchy, and fun to listen to I can't escape the greatness of the rappers' track, "장난없다 (No Joke)." "Mental Breaker" has this interesting blend of classic Asian music, hip hop, and pop and every time I hear it I want to start doing the dance from the teaser video.

Just like "LOL" off their last album,"Welcome To The BLOCK," "장난없다 (No Joke)" is blowing my mind! I am a sucker for a good rap song, and Block B's rapper line gets it done!!! In fact I would have loved to see, Zico, Kyung, and P.O promote this song as a sub-unit.

For the 1st time since their debut the singers of the group were given a chance to really stand out in this heavily rap oriented group and it produced some great songs. While Block B continues to show us they will always be kings when it comes to hip hop, they made sure to remind us they are solid singer with songs like "로맨틱하게 (Romantically)" and "11:30″ and Taeil's solo track "넌 어디에 (Where Are You?)."
