'American Horror Story: Aliens?' Operation Top Hat Theories And Rumors On Season 5 After 'Freak Show' Finale

As "American Horror Story: Freak Show" ends, rumors and theories on season 5 are already surfacing, with one overwhelmingly popular pick for the series' next theme.

After co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that all the "American Horror Story" seasons are linked, one thing fans are hoping to see return is aliens. One reason for this is due to the appearance of the top hat in "Freak Show," which Murphy himself stated is a big clue for season 5.

"I believe the top hat clue actually references Operation Top Hat," said reddit user ace_VXIII.

"Operation Top Hat happened in September 1953, at Fort McClellan, Alabama, one year after Bette & Dot joined the freak show. Both Bette and her mother both reference an unknown "incident" in Alabama when the twins were younger, but I highly doubt the incident has anything to do with Operation Top Hat, rather just an inserted clue. However, given the pattern of timelines between seasons, this leads me to believe that season 5 will happen with AHS's own version of Operation Top Hat set in the present day."

The theories and rumors surrounding aliens is something many fans would like to see become the centerpiece for "American Horror Story" season 5.

"We never got a full explanation for the aliens in season 2, so I really hope that season 5 centers around aliences or at least explains the full story," commented Miguel Angel Villar on Huffington Post.

Another strong point which leads many to believe "American Horror Story" season 5 will be about aliens is this season's tie-in to Pepper, who was last seen in "Asylum."

"The only reason why I say aliens is because of Pepper," continued ace_VXIII. "Murphy could've tied in any other character from any other season, but he chose Pepper."

"Looking back at the role Pepper played in 'Asylum,' her being placed in 'Freak Show,' I think, is kind of a clue. Aliens definitely have a huge part of government conspiracies and cover-ups."
