‘Expendables 4’ Sylvester Stallone Hints About Plot Details – Will We See The Team Time Travel In The Sequel?

"Expendables 4" is most definitely happening and Sylvester Stallone is not one to shy about sharing the future of the franchise.

In an interview with Crave Online, the 68-year-old action superstar shared details about the upcoming movie and how he plans to bring back the franchise up in its feet following the third installment's failure at the box office.

To start with, Sly reiterated that "Expendables" is a movie about "brotherhood" it's "about companionship, that no man stands alone in this world."

And when asked about the plot and the possibility of the Expendables to time travel to WWII and fight Adolf Hitler as pitched in by "Expendables 3" director Patrick Hughes, he had this to say,

"I have actually entertained the idea of putting the group into such an unnatural environment that it, in an of itself, creates extra suspense and tension: the 'fish out of water scenario. That environment might not be time travel, but nearly just as jarring," Sylvester Stallone explained.

Hughes in a previous interview with Crave Online admitted that he already has an idea about "Expendables 4" plot.

"Seriously, if you're going to do a number four, break outside the box. Let's do something really different," he explained referring to his conversation with Sylvester Stallone about fourth film's story.

"I was like, 'You need to add a level of sci-fi.' So it's an action sci-fi. The slant of the sci-fi is something to do with a time machine, where they go through some void, right? And The Expendables land on the beach on D-Day, and it's them sweeping the Nazis out of France!" he added.

Concluding the interview Sly assures the viewers that he will not make the same mistake of having allowed "Expendables 3" to be rated as PG-13 - reportedly the reason why the third installment did not do good in the box office - in the fourth installment of the franchise.

"Absolutely unequivocally yes. I believe it was a horrible miscalculation on everyone's part in trying to reach a wider audience, but in doing such, diminish the violence that the audience expects. I'm quite certain it won't happen again," he answered when asked if he believes that the upcoming "Expendables 4" movie should be R-rated again.
