SM Rookies Hit The Spotlight As New Hosts Of 'Show Champion'

Two SM Entertainment trainees took over the MC-ing role on MBC’s Show Champion.

On January 21, two members of SM Entertainment pre-debut team SM Rookies took over the role of hosting MBC’s weekly music show Show Champion. Jaehyun and Doyoung took over hosting duties for the fourth year of the show. They take over the role from Super Junior’s Kangin.

The two not only hosted the first episode of Show Champion’s new season, but they also performed and had several segments backstage.

During the first show of the year, Doyoung and Jaehyun performed a duet version of Sung Si Kyung’s rendition of Seo Taiji’s song, “To You.”

The two also celebrated the first place award of the evening with fellow SM Entertainment singer, Jonghyun. Jonghyun, a member of SM Entertainment’s SHINee, debuted as a solo artist in January, with his first EP, “Base.”

SM Entertainment released several pictures of the pair on the group's official Twitter page.

SM Rookies is SM Entertainment’s pre-debut public trainee unit, many of whom prepare for debut with official activities, including releasing music and appearing on variety shows.

Doyoung is the newest member of SM Rookies who specializes in flute, and was born in 1996. He joined the SM Rookies line-up on January 19, 2015, only two days before first hosting Show Champion. Jaehyun is a rapper, who was born in 1997.

Several members of SM Rookies debuted with Red Velvet in 2014, and SM Entertainment is expected to debut a new male idol group in 2015 or 2016. SM Entertainment patented the name “Boys’ Generation” in 2014.

It is unknown whether Jaehyun or Doyoung will end up in the final lineup.
