YG's New Line-Up, Next Year Will Be Bigger

The Korean music industry is currently paying attention to the new line-up from YG. In addition to Big Bang and 2NE1, YG has new artists lined up for debut and many other management companies are also paying attention.

Lee Hi debuted with her first song "1,2,3,4" on October 29th and she has currently been holding the #1 spot for two weeks. She has surpassed Busker Busker's record for 12 days at the #1 spot. The reason for this attention is that there are currently no other artists who can stop Lee Hi's run.

Lee Hi was the first new artist that YG's Yang Hyun Seok picked and taught himself. After 2NE1, Lee Hi is the first completely YG new artist and YG invested a lot in her. They gave her a separate practice room and Yang Hyun Suk personally oversaw her training and didn't hesitate to invest large amounts of money in her album and her music video.

On November 4th, Yang Hyun Suk canceled his trip to the US and stayed to watch her first stage. Lee Hi's successful debut just shows that YG's system of finding new talent, training them and marketing them is successful and completely foolproof.

YG had put in 5 years to select the members of Big Bang, training them and debuting them. It took 2NE1 4 years but Lee Hi debuted in only just under a year. This was because YG has a lot of singers and special songwriters that only write for YG artists. Even JYP's Park Jin Young was shocked at the facilities at the YG headquarters.

Yang Hyun Suk's foresight also is key. Rather than putting her into a girl group, who are running the market currently, he sent out a young solo singer and of course many thought that this was a big risk. This year has been big for his other more music-driven artists like Psy and Epik High. His strategy worked well once again.

At this point, YG has 3 sets of new artists debuting next year. He has been able to train multiple at a time and many insiders are definitely paying a lot of attention to how this line-up will play itself out.
