White House To Authorize Use Of Military Force Against ISIS? Obama Administration Waits For Congress' Approval [PHOTO]

This Tuesday, President Obama confirmed that American ISIS hostage Kayla Mueller has been killed. According to ABC News, the confirmation comes days after the terrorist organization claimed she died in a Jordanian airstrike. According to a family spokesperson, Mueller was kidnapped Aug. 4, 2013 after leaving a Spanish Doctors Without Borders hospital in Aleppo, Syria.

The news of Mueller's death also comes at a particularly sensitive time for the White House, as the Obama administration is preparing to send Congress a proposal authorizing limited military force against the Islamic State. Senators are expected to receive the latest information concerning the war authority measure this upcoming Thursday.

CNN reports that the new measure is expected to be limited to three years, and will be focused on combating just ISIS. It would also repeal a 2002 measure that approved military action in Iraq, while leaving a 2001 authorization to fight al Qaeda intact.

According to Fox News, the proposal could receive criticism from both the Republican and Democratic parties, as there are widely varying views for the need for U.S. ground operations. A compromise will need to be reached, as many Democrats oppose the use of ground forces while Republicans would rather leave the option open.

John Cornyn of Texas has already given his approval. Cornyn is the Senate's second-ranking Republican leader, and stated, "This president, you know, is prone to unilateral action. But when it comes to national security matters, and particularly now fighting this barbaric threat - not only to the region but to our own security - I think it's important to come to Congress and get bipartisan support."

Meanwhile, some Democrats are not so sure. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois stated, "We have some legitimate questions as to whether we open this up with a loophole that could lead to another major war."
