Kris And Luhan's Legal Team Reportedly Compares The EXO Members' Treatment By SM Entertainment To JYJ

After SM Entertainment's lawsuits against EXO's inactive members Kris Wu and Luhan, the Chinese members' legal team has reportedly released a statement addressing the matter.

This month, the record label filed a lawsuit against Kris and Luhan for allegedly violating their contracts by conducting promotions and pursuing projects in China. After filing the lawsuit in Shanghai, SM Entertainment also filed a similar lawsuit against Luhan through Hong Kong on Feb. 10.

According to allkpop, Kris and Luhan's legal team released its response through the Chinese publication Sina on Thursday, citing SM Entertainment's alleged infractions against the Fair Trade Commission Republic of Korea to call into question the label's recent actions.

"The mediation set for Feb. 27 at the Korean court is still left, and in a situation where the representatives of both sides are already set to meet in China, the fact that SM filed a lawsuit makes their sincerity to the negotiations questionable," read the statement.

"SM is aware of Luhan's reasons for filing a lawsuit pertaining to his contract, but claimed, 'without any justifiable reason, [Luhan] went against the faith and ethics of the contract and left EXO for his own profit,' in their statement. This is an attempt to harm Luhan's image."

The statement went even further, comparing SM's actions against Kris and Luhan to that of JYJ, the group formed by three former TVXQ members after they also sued the label for termination of contract.

"During SM's contract dispute with JYJ, they put a brake on JYJ's celebrity activities in Korea, reasoning to broadcast and radio stations that there was a 'contract dispute with JYJ,'" continued the statement.

"The Fair Trade Commission Republic of Korea put a penalty on SM in 2013 ordering them to stop the 'restriction on JYJ's celebrity activities.' SM's target purpose in sending their official statement to entertainment organizations and media outlets in China and Hong Kong and filing a lawsuit is to defame the character of Luhan and Kris and to limit their celebrity activities."
