Former EXO Member Luhan Apologizes For Cancelled Lunar New Year Appearance

Former K-pop idol Luhan apologized to his fans for not being able to appear on a Lunar New Year event.

Luhan and Kris (Wu Yifan,) both of whom left SM Entertainment's popular idol group EXO in 2014, were reportedly forced to cancel their appearance on CCTV's Lunar New Year TV program following legal action by SM Entertainment. Luhan wrote an apology to his fans on Weibo, a Chinese social media site.

"I really enjoyed the experience of the rehearsals," Luhan wrote. "Honestly, I'm sorry that I couldn't participate until the completion [of the event.] It appears that I am causing problems for everyone. I am thankful for everything I have gone through, and I aim to put more effort into the next job. I believe that tomorrow will be even brighter. Please watch the Lunar New Year show with your families."

The CCTV Lunar New Year event would have been one of the few times that both former EXO members appeared together.

Both Luhan and Kris withdrew from EXO in 2014, suing SM Entertainment for contract nullification based on a variety of reasons including unfair treatment and bias against members of the Mandarin speaking subgroup, EXO-M. Both Luhan and Kris were members of EXO-M, and Kris was the leader of the group. SM Entertainment has countered that the two violated their contracts in order to pursue solo careers.

Since leaving EXO, both former members pursued entertainment careers in China. However, on February fourth, Shanghai courts accepted SM Entertainment's case against Luhan, which declared many of their activities illegal due to exclusivity contracts with SM Entertainment. SM Entertainment also said that the company will be taking legal action against Kris.

As a result of the legal proceedings, both Luhan and Kris could not take part in the CCTV Lunar New Year event.

There are reports of EXO making its first comeback as a ten member idol group within the first half of 2015.
