Jennifer Garner Discusses Her Childhood And Raising Kids With Ben Affleck, 'Dallas Buyers Club' Actress Praises Southern Values [PHOTO]

Jennifer Garner recently posed alongside her mother and sisters for the newest issue of "Southern Living," giving us all a peek into her family life. According to the Huffington Post, though the "Dallas Buyers Club" actress is married to "Gone Girl" actor Ben Affleck, she is truly a "Garner girl" at heart.

She stated, "Being the middle sister of these three girls is the relationship that defines me more than anything else. More than being my kids' mother, more than being my husband's wife, I'm first and foremost the middle Garner girl."

What's important to note here is that Garner and her sisters were brought up in the South, which has left a distinct impression on her life. Garner was born in Houston, Texas, and later lived in Charleston, West Virginia with her family until her college years. Though she had to move to New York in order to pursue her acting career, she has always cherished the Southern way of life.

She stated, "I feel so fortunate to have grown up in a place where people look out for each other. Community is the one thing people crave most, and it's hard to come by. I grew up with such an excess of it that now wherever I go, the first thing I do is build my group."

She also revealed that she and Ben Affleck plan to raise their three young children with southern values in mind. According to E Online, she said, "It's really important for my kids to see that everyone doesn't have the lives they see in Los Angeles. That doesn't reflect the rest of the world. I want them to grow up with the Southern values I had-to look at people when they say hello and to stop and smell the roses."

Another value she thinks is particularly important is that brains trump over beauty. She recalled, "What my mom did that I valued so much was to not place beauty high on the list of priorities. It was a shock when I got to college to hear people say I was pretty... If I could do half as good a job [parenting] as my mom did, I'd be pretty happy."
