Former 'Scandal' Star Columbus Short Sings About Regrets? Ex Olivia Pope Gladiator Inks Major TV Role

Columbus Short, a former cast of the ABC hit series "Scandal," touched about regrets in a new song called "Burning Bridges" as the ex Olivia Pope gladiator gets a new major TV role.

In a report from Yahoo Music, Columbus Short talked about the whole idea behind "Burning Bridges."

"With everything that I've been through, I've gone through trials and tribulations," he said. "What 'Burning Bridges' is really about is you burn those bridges down [and] sometimes you can't turn around because you already burned them down, but you got to keep pushing forward."

"It was a tough season in my life, but every time I got in that booth, it was like I was writing in my journal, best therapist I had," he added.

Columbus Short was booted out of "Scandal" after a bar room altercation last year.

The actor released a statement confirming his departure from the Shonda Rhimes series: "At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I've called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble in television today."

"Everything must come to an end and unfortunately the time has come for Harrison Wright to exit the canvas. I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry and the rest of the cast..."

Meanwhile, E! Online reported that Columbus Short has booked another TV show called "Fear Files," which is his first following his exit from "Scandal."

"In the short film 'Fear,' which will premiere in Friday, March 13, Short will play City Councilman Harvey Jordan, whose plan to build a football stadium in a low income neighborhood causes friction to erupt within the community," the report said.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Columbus Short explained that his exit from "Scandal" was a result of substance abuse.

"I was struggling with drugs. I had a lot on my plate, and you know, I was using unhealthy ways to kind of self-medicate and deal with a lot of heavy duty stuff in my life...I was doing cocaine and drinking a lot, and trying to balance a 16-hour work schedule a day, and a family, and I just lost myself back then," he said.
