"Pacific Rim 2" has long been confirmed and fans are wondering how the story could possibly continue.

Fans see the "Pacific Rim" franchise to have very promising plot thus, some have speculated on what could transpire in the upcoming sequel.

According to We Got This Covered, an insane sequel would be an intergalactic battle between insectoid aliens and mankind. He stated that repeating the first film's story, where another rift would show up, will be an overkill (i.e. Atlantic Rim). He gave a rather fascinating sequel name which is "Solar Rim". According to Woolf, a group of futuristic mankind will assist the humans in dealing with the monsters and would give the Jaegers a major boost.

He further added that destroying the breach in the first movie is just the beginning. Aliens will see that as a potential threat and a massive fleet will be sent to destroy earth. It is up to the alliance to vanquish the threat, and with all the technological advancements provided by their allies, a space battle will ensue, with the ace of each faction slugging it out in the end.

Meanwhile, Director Guillermo Del Toro confirmed that Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi will be back to reprise their roles.

The director shared what fans can expect from a stronger Raleigh. Via IB Times:

"We are taking the characters into a completely different journey this time because Raleigh (played by Hunnam) for me solved his problem the minute he was able to go full circle and save Mako by sacrificing himself, which is what he couldn't do with his brother. He's not on that journey anymore, he's on a new journey."

The director also shared his favorite character and it is Mako Morin played by Kikuchi:

"To me, my favorite character in many ways is Mako Mori in 'Pacific Rim'. I just love it. It's an experience that you can't get any other way."

It would be interesting to see if the heroes of the first film will be in the front line once again to battle the threat of Kaiju. But, with Del Toro's statement above, fans can expect the two to pilot another Jaeger.
